ADOPTION PROCESS
Thank you for your interest in adopting from our shelter. We look forward to helping you find your fur-ever friend. Please see our three-step adoption process (below).
STEP ONE
We encourage all applicants to stop by and interact with any prospective animal they wish to adopt. The ultimate goal is to ensure that an animal is the perfect fit for each individual person/household. Then, you can complete an adoption application.
The adoption application takes approximately 2-3 business days to process. We will run a background check on anyone in the household over 18. If you rent your home/apartment, your landlord must approve the adoption.
STEP TWO
If you have a dog in the house and are looking to adopt another, a crucial part of the adoption process is the Meet and Greet.
Once your application is approved, we ask that you return to the shelter with your current dog(s), where a guided and secure Meet and Greet can take place.
If the Meet & Greet does not go well, we will keep your approved application on file for six (6) months, and continue to work with you to find your perfect match.
STEP THREE
Once your application is approved, you will conduct a home visit, which entails taking the animal home for 7-10 days to assess how they fit (before finalizing the adoption).
You will need a copy of your license to complete the home visit process. The adoption will then be finalized, and you will receive any relevant medical information.
PLEASE NOTE: THE HCHS adoption fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Dogs: 6 months & under $200
7 months - 7 years $150
8 years & over $75
** any dog under 20 lbs. $175 **
Cats: 6 months & under $60
7 months & over $30
*** FREE Senior Cats for Seniors ***
All cats seven years and older are FREE to senior residents who are 65 and over!
Rabbits: $20
Small Animals (hamsters and guinea pigs.): $20
Please call for pricing on any other small animals or birds.
